End of winter organizers Market share advice, changes to improve the market experience

After the crowds last week, organizers hope to improve future markets.

After more than 4,000 people attended the first end-of-winter market at Garver Feed Mill, organizers are making updates and suggestions based on participant feedback.

In an email newsletter, organizers of the Dane County Farmers’ Market say many people have had a negative experience in the market, citing traffic problems and difficulty navigating through crowds.

“We’re here to let you know we hear you,” the newsletter says. “Based on the lessons learned from the First Market and the feedback we heard, we have updates and clarified information on visiting the market to make it a happy and delicious part of your winter Saturday mornings. ”

To provide more space, there will be larger customer aisles and a different layout to make it easier to navigate the market. The information kiosk also moves to the westernmost supplier bank.

Regarding the parking issue, which is the biggest concern, organizers suggest avoiding the Garver Feed Mill parking lot. The parking lot fills up quickly and they hope to prioritize this parking area for customers with reduced mobility. The organizers suggest using other free public parking options nearby. For a view of the free parking options, they created a map with estimated walking times.

In addition, the organizers are increasing the signage to help with parking and the volunteers will help direct people to the parking lots – they will hand out flyers at the gate.

Organizers also suggest bringing cash as Garver does not have an ATM or tote bags to carry all the gifts. Dogs are also prohibited whether they are kept on a leash or in bags.

To give farmers time to settle in, market organizers ask people not to arrive early. It opens strictly at 8 a.m. and people can check in anytime until 12 p.m.

Despite some of the problems of the first market, the organizers say they are “overwhelmed by the support given to our farmers, bakers and cheese makers”.

“Last Saturday we had good news for the farmers: Our farmers had a day that would make any local food lover and advocate of the food system jump with joy, a day they thrived,” the bulletin said.

There are over 40 vendors who will be at the market this Saturday at Garver Feed Mill.
